Data Protection
Data Protection
Data protection refers to safeguarding an individual’s privacy, for example, when processing personal data. The operations of Lapland University Consortium (LUC) require the collection and storage of personal data of staff and students, among others. Data protection must be taken into account in all functions of LUC.
Basis for the Processing of Personal Data at LUC
LUC processes personal data to fulfill its statutory duties as defined in the Universities of Applied Sciences Act. The university processes personal data of students, staff, and stakeholders. Data related to alumni, marketing, customers, and partners is processed based on a contract, consent, legitimate interest, or a legal obligation. Personal data is processed to perform work tasks, enable students to study, and maintain user authorizations and data security.
LUC processes all personal data within the framework of laws, regulations, and agreements.
LUC acts as the data controller in the processing of personal data and is responsible for the processing even in cases where the service involving personal data is provided by a third-party service provider or outsourced.
Rights of the Data Subject
The data subject always has the right to request access from the data controller to their personal data and the right to request correction or deletion of the data, or restriction of processing, as well as the right to object to the processing. The right to deletion does not apply to personal data processed by the university of applied sciences on the basis of statutory duties, public interest, or other legal obligation to retain the data.
Requests for access, correction, or deletion of personal data must be made using the following forms:
- Personal Data Access Request Form
- Personal Data Correction and Deletion Request Form
If you want to review your data or request corrections or deletion, follow these instructions:

If the data subject wants to restrict or object to the processing of their data, they are asked to contact the Data Protection Officer.

The data subject has the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority. Contact details and instructions for submitting a complaint to the authority as defined by the regulation will be published on this page once available.
